This policy describes what ClimateCrisis.net collects when you visit, why, and what you can do about it. It reflects the tools actually running on this site rather than a generic template.
The short version
We do not ask you to create an account, we do not run comments, and we do not sell data. What we do collect is analytics about how pages are used, plus the technical logs any website generates. Two of the tools we use are operated by Google and place cookies.
What we collect
Analytics. We use three measurement tools:
- Google Analytics 4 (property G-J98RBS5CRW), which records pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, referring site, and interaction events. Google is the data controller for the data it processes through this service.
- Google Tag Manager (container GTM-KFC8XQDB), which is a container for loading measurement tags rather than a collector in its own right.
- Burst Statistics, a privacy-focused analytics tool that stores its data on this site’s own server rather than sending it to a third party.
Server logs. Our host records standard request logs, including IP address, timestamp, requested URL, and user agent. These are used for security and diagnostics.
Security records. The site runs All-In-One Security, which logs failed login attempts and blocked requests. This applies to administrative access, not ordinary reading.
What we do not collect. There are no user accounts on this site for readers. Comments are disabled site-wide, so we hold no comment data. We do not operate a newsletter, so we hold no subscriber list. We do not process payments and hold no financial data.
Email you send us
If you write to [email protected] we keep your message and address in order to reply and, where relevant, to record a correction. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list.
Cookies
Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager set cookies used to distinguish visitors and sessions. Burst Statistics is configured to operate without setting tracking cookies. Some cookies may also be set by our caching and performance layer for purely technical purposes, such as serving the correct version of a page.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not prevent you from reading anything on this site. Browser-level controls such as Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and browser extensions that block analytics scripts, will also work here.
Third-party services
Beyond Google’s services above, some images on this site are delivered through a third-party content delivery network, which means your browser requests those files from that network’s servers rather than ours. Those servers receive your IP address as an ordinary part of delivering the file.
Pages may link to external sites. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies, not this one.
Legal basis and retention
Where the GDPR applies, our legal basis for analytics is legitimate interest in understanding how our content is used, and for security logging it is legitimate interest in protecting the site. Where consent is required in your jurisdiction for non-essential cookies, you may withdraw it at any time through your browser controls.
Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in that property. Server and security logs are retained on a rolling basis, typically for a period of weeks. Email correspondence is kept as long as it remains relevant to an ongoing correction or enquiry.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, or to receive it in a portable form. Residents of the EU and UK have these rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR; residents of California have comparable rights under the CCPA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.
To make a request, write to [email protected]. We may need to ask for information to confirm which records relate to you, since we hold very little that identifies individuals. In practice, most visitors are not personally identifiable to us at all.
Much of the analytics data described above is held by Google rather than by us. For those records, requests may need to be directed to Google, and Google’s own privacy policy governs its processing.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change the tools we use or the way we handle data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the page rather than made silently.
